There is a selection of binary (and hex) editors in our /pc/binedit directory, and some of them just might have this feature as far as I recall. Unfotunately I cannot recall which of the ten or so in there are the one's worth checking. Hope this helps a byte :-) anyway. "The wares are available by anonymous ftp from garbo.uwasa.fi, Vaasa, Finland, 128.214.87.1, or by using our mail server (use the latter if, and only if you don't have anonymous ftp). If you are not familiar with anonymous ftp or mail servers, I am prepared to send prerecorded instructions on email requests. If you don't get the instructions from me within a few days, it will mean that your email address cannot be reached by a simple email reply. In that case, ask your system manager to devise a proper mail path for you, because unless you do, you wouldn't be able to utilize the mail server anyway." ................................................................... You should try BEAV; The release 1.30 of BEAV (Binary Editor And Viewer), is a full featured binary file editor. Just about any operation that you could want to do to a binary file is possible with BEAV. You can insert or delete in the middle of a file thereby changing it's size. You can display and edit data in hex, octal, decimal, binary, ascii, or ebcdic formats. You can display data in byte, word, or long word formats in either Intel or Motorola byte ordering. You can send the formatted display mode to a file or printer. And much more. The new features in release 1.30 include; * The n-way-split command allows a binary file to be split, byte by byte, among different output files. This is useful in creating PROM image files. The n-way-combine command can put PROM files together again. * BEAV should compile on BSD UNIX based machines now. Thanks to some user suggestions. * Deleting a range of data is much faster now. * Commands that can take a lot of time can be stopped. * Memory allocation errors require a response from the user rather than just printing a warning. This is mostly a MSDOS problem. Some people didn't see the error message and complained about data loss. * Plus some bug fixes. A copy of BEAV in MSDOS executable form should be available from SIMTEL20 at PD1:<MSDOS.FILUTL>BEAV130.ZIP The source for BEAV was posted to comp.sources.misc and should be available from any appropriate archive. -- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Peter Reilley ..... pvr@wang.com <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Well, that about says it.
