Just keep topping it up and it'll be ok. -- Alan ZX9R-E2 (green of course) Triumph Tiger 955i (a pleasant shade of green)

Also where is the water pump on this bike.(friends bike) They always did have a tendency to overheat if provoked. I think Kawasaki fitted a modded thermostat to the early models. Anyway, on a bike of this age, the cooling system is likely to be less than 100% efficient - there's probably all sorts of crap in the rad and pipes. Dunno if you can get any thing to clean cooling systems out, but some of the shite old car experts here (paging Pip, SteveH, etc) might know. The water pump can be found by the simple process of following the hoses. I believe it's on the left hand side, by the sprocket cover, on the 900R, tho I could be wrong. One of the ZZR11 boys (paging Lozzo, Nige Eaton) will be able to confirm, as it's basically the same design of motor. -- Champ : worse than Bonwick GSX-R 1000, GPz 750 turbo, ZX7RR Endurance Racer GYASB#0 BotToS#2 BOTAFO(T|F)#35 UKRMFBC#2 IHABWTMMJ#3 MCT#5 WG*#1 BONY#40 DFV#8 IbW#17 SBS#34 Racing : www.team-ukrm.com. Which reminds me, I need some of that stuff for my ShiteOldRover. Keep in mind that this stuff might also remove all the silt that kept the cooling system watertight. -- Timo Geusch Morini Corsaro 125 | Bimota YB7 | Sprint ST BOTAFOF #33 TWA#10 The UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ukrmfaq1.html

Assuming first of all that the thermostat is working correctly - fit a new one if in any doubt ... Drain system. Refill with Radflush (follow the instructions on the tin) and water. Run it up to full operating temperature, then drain. Flush with a hose - then backflush with a hose (shoving the water the wrong way round the system) - it may be an ideal to whip out the thermostat to allow full flow. Refill with the proper mix of coolant - never just water. You may wish to add a "wetting agent" (Champ can tell you about these) in order to maximise cooling. You won't need to worry about it for long in any case, as: 1. You are going to put the bike to bed for the winter - or 2. It will achieve critical temp and melt into a little ally puddle shortly - or 3. It's about to get so fucking cold that it will never overheat - and if it does, a waft of steam will be gratefully received. Sorted ;-) -- Pip, Hairy Gfedcker. RF 900RR, Ruff and Rattly. On my ZZR11 it's on the left of the engine forward and below the sprocket cover, almost directly below the clutch slave cylinder at the bottom of the cases. There are metal pipes coming out of it, you can't mistake it for anything but a coolant pump. -- Lozzo ZZR1100D, GPZ500S, CBCBCB750RSRSRS BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, two#49, MIB#22, TCP#7, BONY#9, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, KoBV#3. I tend to reverse flush the system whenever I change the coolant myself. When we had problems with the old Cinquecento overheating, a good reverse flush dislodged all sorts of crap. You just need to flush water though until all the rusty shite is cleared out. Limescale remover also works wonders in getting rid of the slited up crap in the system. I also had some success using some of the specialist coolants that claim 'super cooling' properties - especially if run at 75% or so concentration. -- Steve H 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' http://www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 VW Golf GL Cabrio (carb broken) - Alfa 75 TS - Alfa 33 1.7ie BoTAFOT #87 - BoTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC #
