Well I travelled from Loughborough to Manchester last week, and after seeking advice from Midland Mainline, I was assured that my ticket would be valid by going to Leicester and then on the non-stop train to Manchester (passing Loughborough at 100mph). The guards on both legs were happy with my ticket, and when I explained the predicament of zooming through Loughborough one mentioned that he saw a fair few passengers travelling to/from Loughborough on the services to Manchester. On the outward leg, I also managed to get a First Class breakfast for £15 as apparently there were no First Class customers at all from Leicester!

"Oxford Blue" > On the outward leg, I also managed to get a First Class breakfast for > £15 Can$30.00 for breakfast??????? Jeez, I pay around Can$10.00 for two eggs, two bacon, two (thick) pancakes, two sausages, toast (With jam/honey or peanut butter) and a bottomless cup of coffee. That's on a Sunday at a reasonable quality family restaurant. Weekdays, the same meal costs around Can$5.00. -- Cheers Roger T. Whilst not Permitted as it involves doubling back and there's no easement listed (so, in theory, you should do Loughborough - Derby/Nottingham - Sheffield - Manchester), it's a perfectly reasonable route, and it's good to see that MML actually agree on that, rather than blindly applying the routeing guide rules. Incidentally, the shortest route (at 84 miles 30 chains) is via Derby, Stoke and Macclesfield. Cya, Barry -- Barry Salter, barry at southie dot me dot uk Read uk.* newsgroups? That's on a Sunday at a reasonable quality family restaurant. But does your family restaurant travel at 100mph? ;-)

What price a 2005 Mustang over there? Even with the import and duty costs it would make a nice, and cheap, change from all those crappy Beamers and crappy drivers of Beamers over here!

An operator is free [*] to accept tickets on non-Permitted Routes and, as you say, it's good to see MML applying common-sense. That's on a Sunday at a reasonable quality family restaurant. For a more appropriate comparison, take a look at Via Rail's breakfast menu on the 'Canadian' ... Two Egg Breakfast: Two eggs any style with your choice of bacon, ham or sausage and hashbrowns, toast or a muffin. Can$6.75 http://www.viarail.ca/menu_repas/en_index_frame.html When can I go? Charlie

I can get a main meal of three slices thick lamb, two kinds potatoes, three veg and two yorkshire puddings for £4.50 but wouldnt expect to pay so little on board a 1st class GneR Restaurant Car with all their high running costs to take into consideration.

"Graeme Wall" > You've been away a long time Roger Obviously. And with UK rail breakfasts running at Can$30 Vs around Can$6.00 on Via Rail Canada, can you see why? And we have bottomless coffee cups. Coffee, for example is around Can$1.25 to Can$2.00 for a bottomless cup of coffee. Soft drinks, around Can$2.50 to Can$3.00 for a bottomless glass. The UK seems so very expensive. -- Cheers Roger T. Yeah, one of the things we don't *often* get over here is free refills of coffee and even less of soft drinks
