Any sympathy I might ever have had for that selfish spiteful woman has competely disappeared. I hope that Caroline sells out to somebody who quickly kicks out the raddled hag and her bigoted husband and replaces them with people who care more about their customers and less about themselves. And preferably a landlady with a slightly less ludicrous accent. It's Fallon I feel sorry for. -- Stephen <http://wenlock.blogspot.com/> Into my heart an air that kills from yon far country blows: What are those blue remembered hills, what spires, what farms are those? That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went and cannot come again.

> Any sympathy I might ever have had for that selfish spiteful woman has > competely disappeared. Quite. Selfish, spiteful and ***stupid*** with it. How to go about keeping Caroline well-disposed towards her - *not*. > I hope that Caroline sells out to somebody who > quickly kicks out the raddled hag and her bigoted husband and replaces > them with people who care more about their customers and less about > themselves. Fallon will be fine - she'll hit the big time, and be raking in the dosh before long, so she can offer her poor homeless Ma a roof over her head. Will she take Sid too, I wonder? Or will he have to go and throw himself of Lucy's mercy? Anne B

She could - and should IMO - have handled the whole thing more carefully. Though I understand why she didn't. She's very focused on the whole GG deal. Jolene may have done everyone a favour since Peggy will probably come to see the possible consequences of the sale more clearly. As Serena, I think, said Jack will not be happy if it results in massive changes. Maybe she will relent on the tight time scale. -- SB

She's treating them exactly as Piggy is treating her. Is that fair ? How would you feel if your way of life was being threatened by someone interested in only *their* future - no interest in yours ?? -- Regards, Hugh Jampton

And there's still the issue of the ludicrous accent. -- Stephen <http://wenlock.blogspot.com/> Into my heart an air that kills from yon far country blows: What are those blue remembered hills, what spires, what farms are those? It wasn't pleasant at the time, but some good came out of it. Not so much, but some ;-) We did what we could to salvage the situation, given the circumstances. In other words, we dealt with it, because we had to. On the grounds of what goes around comes around, we still (10 years on (yes, husbad was fired the day dorter was born)) hope the person who did this is sitting somewhere else in the world in v deep s*it. We know that he got fired unexpectedly himself a couple of years later. -- Tout de bonbon, Anne, Gumrat - Never unknowingly double entendred.

Sid did insist on knowing why this was happening, and Jolene has gone off like a firework. But it's Peggy who's the root cause of all of this, and for no rational reason. While spitting out some home-made cheese, I heard Fenny <umrat@onetel.com> say >Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer ^W^W^W^W uk.media.radio.archers, >Hugh Jampton said ... >> >> How would you feel if your way of life was being threatened by someone >> interested in only *their* future - no interest in yours ?? >> >Welcome to Real Life. How true. I heard of someone who divided the world into three groups of people: Group 1: people who were out to get him, and would go to quite a lot of trouble to screw him. Group 2: people with no particular grudge but who would probably screw him in passing, so to speak, while following their own self-interest. Group 3: people who would never screw him. The only person in group 3 was himself! Tony Gardner N.B. Return E-mail address is spamtrapped. Replace "spambin" with "tony" and "nospam" with "gardner"

Umm - the person who seems best to meet that description at the moment is Jolene. She has absolutely no interest in Caroline's rights or interests at all. Caroline does seem to have some interest and concern for Sid and Jolene's interests but, quite reasonably, IMO, she has more concern for her own. -- Cheers, Serena The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness and kindness, can be trained to do most things. This question only arises because business and relationships have become mixed up which is usually a recipe for trouble. When Peggy decided to sell the Bull Sid (& Kathy) were only able to get a share in it because Caroline was prepared to step in and buy a 51% share. Now they are of the view that she should either sell to them on favourable terms or not sell at all and I am less than sure why, emotion apart, they feel she owes them anything. To be brutal it's a business that is OK but fails to generate a proper return on the capital employed: if it did S&J would be able to finance a bank loan. -- Tony Bryer

They've also made it abundantly clear, in the past, that they don't even think she should have any right to influence the way the pub is run. They have always very much resented any "interference" in the business. I think they could be in for a big shock if/when Caroline sells her share; they'll be very lucky if they find another partner who is happy to leave them alone to run the pub as they want. For example, I suspect that Lilian (who seems to me to be the most likely local purchaser) would want far more involvement in the day to day running of the business than Caroline has. -- Cheers, Serena If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.
