Am off to Beijing soon and was wondering whether any readers of this
group have recommendations for delicacies or restaurants to look out for
whilst I'm there. I'm totally ignorant about real Chinese food.

Long shot I know but there appear to be a few well travelled types
knocking around.

TVM, Dan.

I haven't travelled, but I've got what I think is a good cookbook
introduction to 'real' Chinese food, which varies greatly from region to
region. It's a bit like travelling if I read it while walking from room
to room...

sorry, I know this isn't helpful, but it proves I've read your post and
would help if I could.

Try uk.food+drink.chinese.
There are quite a few there who travel to Hong Kong , but that is a *long*
way from Beijing.

FWIW when presented with a different cuisine, I choose something I have not
had before, or at random.

I lived in Beijing for a while a couple of a years ago. I'll try to
scratch my memory (but I'll google to affirm my "facts").

It's the best thing about Beijing, imo.

I'll get to it asap.

Yes, but the point about that article was that the fisherman decided on
doing it himself.

might be a good idea to learn the characters of a few of your favourites, the

Thanks. It's good to know there's someone out there. Next time I'll try
and ask a question you can answer ;) An omlette recipe for instance.
