I ponder your prolific writing and the depth of your explorations.
Now I understand how a person with your mental magnitude could come up
with a title for your treatise "America is Shit".

The thing that really irks me about "Americans" like you (and I use that
term loosely) is that no matter how well you have it, all you can do is
complain.
If you think another country is better than this one, then by all means,
MOVE!!!
I don't think anyone in the U.S. of A is going to try real hard to stop
you.

I doubt that you have travelled anywhere, certainly not to any Third
World countries, and you have certainly never lived anywhere else. I
doubt that anyone who is well read would title their post as you did,
either.

If you had travelled anywhere further than your back yard you might
have noticed that there are an awful lot of people trying to get into
America and it's not to live in a joke. If America is the
laughingstock of the world, then how do you explain the riots and
protest marches in Mexico City when the US attempts to restrict
immigration? According to your view, those Mexicans should be glad
that nobody will get sucked into the big joke.

You might also notice that poor Cubans are setting sail in innertubes
to reach the US. Do you think that they are putting their lives at
risk for a joke?

It seems that you are another pathetic American traitor who, ignorant
of the sad real lives of the rest of the world, whose loyalty can be
rocked by a magazine article. I recommend that you voyage out to the
Third World and get a taste of their lives. Right now you are simply
screaming your ignorance.

No. The world thinks that Americans like you are a joke. Maybe you
should find somewhere else to live. As proof of this you cross-posted
your dribble in sci.med, which has absolutely nothing to do with your
subject. It's people like you who give the very impression you're

this is backwards... this country was founded by people who didn't just
move because they didn't like it here. Most countries are founded by
people like that. Most people can't move if they don't like it here. T
The concept of a democracy, whether you like it (the democracy) here or
not, gives you (and i, and him and her) the right and the responsibility
to not only complain but to do something about it. It is writen into the
declaration of independce, and explicit in the constitution. There are many
problems with america, this is no utopia, and it is you job and our right
to change and fix those problems. Moving out of the country isn't a solution, in fact it would be one of the most selfish things you could do.

"World explorer"? Who are you anyway, Marco Polo? Where are you off to
next? "Shooting tigers in India?" Ho ho!

> > >The world thinks we

Ah, so what? France holds Jerry Lewis in godlike esteem, and they eat
stinky cheese; I think that's pretty funny. I also think it's pretty
funny that the English still pay tax dollars to keep the monarchy going.
The following line was written by an Englishman: "Elizabeth of Mayhem,
you are one in a field of one/As the flashbulbs pop, at the premier
stop, on your nowhere agenda." Canadians? Bunch of hockey players eating
fat bacon.

Seriously, I think it's funny that "the world thinks we are a joke"
until they need something from the U.S. Like food. Or being rescued. Or
cash.

The U.S. is partially a joke, but so are most countries that are halfway
decent to live in. It's the countries that aren't funny at all, that you
want to avoid. I used to have a neighbor from Denmark; he lived here for
20 years and he moved back. I never asked him why he moved back. If he
likes it better there, great! I personally have no desire to move to
anywhere else. Good medical care here. Plus, we have an entire aisle of
breakfast cereals, for starters.

I was just their a last September and I loved it! Have you ever been
their?

I am a young woman and I was traveling alone, throughout Italy. I found
the people in Naples extemely helpful and kind. When I lost my camera and
guidebook in a taxi, I figured is was gone for good. The police said that
I would never get them back. So I started talking to a group of drivers
just hanging out in the Piazza.

They insisted that I should not lose my camera on vacation so two drivers
and I jumped into a cab and we drove around Naples over and over until we
found the right cab and one of the guys got out, went over to the other
driver and retrieved my stuff for me. Then they drove me to the train
station, making sure I went to the right one. I tried to pay them but they
insisted that they were doing their duty.
What chivalry!

Geese... America is just America and it is a big place. I grew up in
a town where people don't lock their houses and leave car keys in
their cars. We do pretty well considering that we are a melting pot
of nearly every culture of the World. And we've had a drug problem
here due in part to our fun-loving affluence which spawned a ruthless
black-market and a drug subculture. But there is not near the crime
in the US that there is in most South and Central American countries.
And there are places in Europe not safe for Americans. ...Naples
comes to mind.

It was just over 50 years ago that we came to Europe to crush fascism,
a trendy little phenomena that killed 50 million people. And there
was virtually no rape or pillaging by the Americans and we rebuilt
those lands we conquered treating our former enemies with dignity and
respect.

And the computer revolution we are a part of here is without question
based right here in America. ...leading the way into the future
again!

Name a country and I can pick it apart. It is not a perfect world and
America has its problems along with any country.

A good natured criticism, but many Western European countries' breakfast
doesn't qualify under our criterion of a meal.

But some of what you say in the rest of your post is true. Multiparty
democracy has its problems (governments that last eight months, disloyal
coalitions, etc.) but I'm not sure that, overall, I think the two-party
system is the best one. And I've seen British debates, and there's some
merit to your point. But I've also seen the British House of Commons
and I must say our Congress enacts laws in a more orderly and less
contentious fashion.

Oh but also the muder problem isn't as bad as it seems. The average
American's chances of being murdered are extremely close to zero.

The problem with that statement is this: the reason why the U.S. has
the best food in the world is that the U.S. has no (traditional) food of
its own. We thus tend to have a much better selection of international
food styles in our restaurants. We don't have more traditional food
items like kidney pie, fish and chips, or flan to bind us down (if we
happen not to like those dishes). We choose from most commonly Mexican,
Italian, Chinese, and French, but you can also go to any town and find
Indian, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, and the like. Not that these don't
exist in Europe, but they're easier to find in America.

Unfortunately, the way of life for white American tends to be much
better than for black Americans. If we could raise the standard of
living of the average black person to that of the average white person,
that standard of life would be something to brag about.

I love Italy. I too have stories to tell about the friendly people
there. But not everyone was friendly. I got a very threatening look
from a man in a returant becuase he thought I was looking at his woman
which I was not. He looked like he wanted to kill me. And there are
a lot of killers in Naples and I heard a few years ago that travel
agents were recomeding that Americans not go there and Sandro, our
guide, confirmed that. We only drove by Naples on our way to Pompeii,
Salerno, and Paestum. We talked about going into Napoli and Sandro
said we'd be OK if the people saw that we were with him but that
Americans were still not safe in Napoli. Sure, nothing happened to
you but that dosn't mean it's not dangerous.

And BTW, almost everywhere we went, Sandro ask a local if is was safe
to park the rent-a-car. It being broken into was of major concern
wherever we went: Rome, Tivoli, Florence, Sienna, Pompeii, Paestum.
He was constantly checking the car and moving it to a safer location.

I love Italy. I hope to spend an entire summer there someday. But it
is not perfect. It has its problems like anywhere else.
