I have just received a partial photograph from the regimental museum of the
Warrant Officers and various Sergeants of 16th Lancers in May 1907 as it
includes my paternal grandfather William. Photograph taken at Aldershot.
Credit to Captain Holby Curator.

I do not understand some of the abbreviated ranks; can anyone help?

Sgt (O-RC) T.Marsden
S-S-M-R-R J.Curr
S-Q-M-S W.Westcott
S-S-M-I-F J.James
F-Q-M-S W.Dean
S-S-M-I-M C.Denman
S-S-M (O-RS) name incomplete

I will publish as near a complete list of names and ranks here later for
people who like to google.

Here is what I reckon they are, with all but one of them taken from
King's Regulations 1912, para 282....

>Sgt (O-RC) T.Marsden

Sergeant (Orderly Room Clerk)

>S-S-M-R-R J.Curr

Squadron Sergeant Major Rough Rider

>S-Q-M-S W.Westcott

Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant

>S-S-M-I-F J.James

Squadron Sergeant Major Instructor in Fencing and Gymnastics

>F-Q-M-S W.Dean

Farrier Quartermaster Sergeant

>S-S-M-I-M C.Denman

Squadron Sergeant Major Instructor in Musketry

>S-S-M (O-RS) name incomplete

Squadron Sergeant Major (Orderly Room Sergeant)
