Seminoles begin trail back to national title contention

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Bobby Bowden admits he's had more than his share of
luck when it comes to getting to national championship games. Now, the Florida
State coach is looking for a little more. "We're better off now than the year we
lost to Notre Dame," Bowden said this week. "That was a week before the season
was over." With games remaining against a pair of Top 10 teams and with other
ranked teams still facing tough games, Bowden is thinking positive as his club
embarks on the road back with a Saturday warmup against winless Duke. "I'd think
we have as good a chance as anybody else of getting back there," Bowden said.
"But we've got to take 'em one at a time." Florida State (5-1, 3-0 ACC) was
knocked out of the No. 1 ranking last week after a 27-24 defeat at Miami. It
isn't the first time the Seminoles have
had to play out of the losers' bracket to contend for the title.
