Some unbelievable choices! "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"? I won't
even touch that one! (That's the one Beatles song we cover in the
progressive-rock cover band I play in.) "She's Leaving Home"? "Within
You Without You"? - Incredible to me! But "Why Don't We Do It In The
Road" is a favorite of mine too, I don't see how anyone who likes
rock'n'roll can resist it. One of Paul's wildest, most uninhibited
vocals!, and nothin' but a nice chugging hard rocker. I hear it as
descended in a jagged line from "Hold Me Tight," another one that I
just love but some don't. Anyway, I'll agree that "Blue Jay Way,"
"What Goes On," "Flying," are not among their best or most exciting
tracks.

....but anyway of course that's the nature of ANY list like this, some
people's faves are always others' least-faves.

My take on the songs on your list:

OK. Don't mind it in context on the SPLHCB album.

> misery

I like it.

> why don't we do it in the road

Yeah. No magic at all.

> revolution no. 9 (is it even a song?)

Not really a song, I don't think. And not really worth listening to.

> within you, without you

Not one of my favorites.

> blue jay way

Boring.

> all together now

I like it. So does my 10-year-old daughter.

> what goes on

One of my favorite Ringo-sung tunes. I wish he would do this one live.

> flying

Nothing special, but not bad.

> cheese and onions

A classic! Do I have to spell it out?

Thanks for your insights.

Here's my list of the 10 worst, since we're sharing:

1. Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds -- what the hell? This song does not rock.

2. Don't Pass Me By -- please, pass me by

3. Let it Be -- hard to think of a less interesting song

4. Get Back -- whoops, just thought of one.

5. Maxwell's Silver Hammer -- about 30% too slow.

6. Dig a Pony -- I know, picking this one is a cheap shot

7. Hey Jude -- sure, the extended outro is stirring, but you have to get through
all that plodding McCartney piano ballad to get there

8. Seven Nation Army

9. (I've Got a Girl in) Kalamazoo

10. Bella by Barlight

Add to your list -

Mr. Moonlight
Devil in her Heart
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Maxwell's Silver Hammer
Everybody's Trying to be my Baby

"Misery" is a fine song. "What Goes On" has a fine arrangement, but didn't
belong on Rubber Soul. "Flying" is beautifully produced with a great
arrangement too.

Dig It
What Goes On
Blue Jay Way

These are the songs I almost always skip over to get to the next song.
But the worst offender of all time is
HER MAJESTY
I could care less about the song itself, take it or leave it, but
having it on Abbey Road was an awful indignity to an otherwise perfect
album. It may not have been Paul's fault, but I always hated him for it
anyway. It's funny now that I think of it, but Paul's next record was
his first solo record and that album begins with The Lovely Linda, sort
of hermajestyesque. As Robin Williams said many times, "Why don't you
put them both together and make one good one".

I thought "Her Majesty" was the perfect way to "puncture" the solemnity
of "The End." It's like going "Shave and a haircut, two-----"

This is a tricky one. The first album has stuff that's pretty corny,
but you kind of like to forgive, like "ask me why" and "anna" - so maybe
I'll start after that.

Thank You, Girl
Not A Second Time
When I get Home (well,it does rock, it's just stupid)
Mr. Moonlight
What Goes On
Only A Northern Song (great drumming though)
The Inner Light
Glass Onion
Not Guilty
Dig A Pony

I don't know if "outtakes" really count (like "Not Guilty") - if they
don't, I could add "Old Brown Shoe"

Worst rejects?
By far the worst would be -
"If You've Got Troubles"

(it's not fair to include "12 bar original" since it's just a jam)

Are these honestly on your 10 worst list, or just your 10 *most
overrated* list?

What's nonsensical about "I want you so bad it's driving me mad?"

I completely agree. After the grandeur of "The End," it provides
levity. It's folksy and modest.
