Please make a visit to our new Cycling Web Page showing
the BIG WALL CYCLING Stock Index. This is much like the
Dow Jones only it is geared (ha!) to the Cycling Industry.

It is only here that you'll see that the Industry is up
53% in one year!

You'll find it at:
http://psy.ucsd.edu/~mtaffe/CycleLink.html
and follow the links to Stock Index.

This will be updated about every two weeks so check back
at least that often.

Humbling.

I also heard that there are more licensed pigeon racers in America than
there are bike racers (pre-MTB, I think).

There's a nice industry index in Bicycle Retailer & Industry News
that includes a wider array of cycling-related companies, both
high-volume, low-end producers and accessory companies.

Unlike heavy industry, which is what the Dow Jones Industrial
Average used to represent, the bicycle industry still has a very
large share of the market in the hands of privately-held
companies. More and more bike companies are going public to get
added funding, but for now I doubt any stock index will be a good
measure of the industry's health. Industry sales and import
figures are probably a better guide, even if they aren't as easy
to come by.

That's exactly why I added racing sponsors. An index with only two
members is indicative of almost nothing. I want at least eight at any
time.

BTW, next week's Index update will include Cannondale (their ticker is
BIKE, so I missed it on my alphabetized list).

And if you think Huffy is low end, the only other manufacturer
I can add is Murray, but they seem to have disappeared from the exchanges
over the summer. Does anyone know?

When lawn and garden starts marketing specialized clothing and you see
riding lawnmowers flying of mogels, well...

Bicycles have re-emerged as the leading form of transportation
worldwide, not in the USA. But I'm changing that with an auxiliary
power supply for bikes, called Dimension EDGE. MADE in the USA. Email
EDGEkit@wtp.net for news on this product and virtually any statistic on
bicycling in regards to industry power and why.
Knowledge is power.
