For about two weeks now, there is an (J)E-3C operating out of
Geilenkirchen airbase (ETNG) in Germany. This aircraft, serial
73-1674, was transferred last year from Boeing to the USAF.

It is conducting some sort of test programm with several NATO
gci ground sites. Using the callsign 'Allen 02', he is also working
together with other NATO E-3' s, flying as 'Magic' 98 and 99.
These two aircraft have been operating out of Manching, a
German test facility and airfield in southern Germany.

Sofar most testing involved the latest link-14 and link-16 radar
modes and have quick communications. Today 'Allen 02' was
monitored on UHF 254.350 with 'Magic' 58 and 67, on 277.250,
280.800 with ground site 'Limelight' and on 364.200 Mhz, which
is a NATO common channel.

Does anyone know what the purpose of this test programm is,
and how long it will take before these new have quick comms
will be integrated in NATO air defense ?

Rene / Aerocom.
