Version-Number: 1.2 Last-modified: 23rd February 1995 Welcome to rec.autos.sport.info! ================================ This moderated newsgroup is intended to provide you with timely news, results and other information related to auto racing. This brief document will attempt to explain how this newsgroup functions. * How do I post to this newsgroup? -------------------------------- You can post as you would post to any other newsgroup. Your news software will then automatically forward the article to the moderator daemon, ras-info@motorsport.com, which subsequently sends copies of it to all the moderators for approval. As an alternative, you may choose to mail your article directly to the moderation address, ras-info@motorsport.com; it will be processed in an identical fashion. * How long will my posts be delayed? ---------------------------------- Ideally, not at all. The idea behind having seven moderators is to have one or more moderators on-line as much of the time as possible, and available for immediately approving an article. Your post will get emailed first to motorsport.com; then to the moderators; and finally, after approval, back to motorsport.com. At this point the moderator daemon will post the article to the group. Internet email has a much higher priority than news, and travels much faster, so the mail delays are minimal. And motorsport.com has a very fast news connec- tion, with news propagation delays of less than an hour to much of the Internet. As a result, your article may even propagate *faster* than if you had posted it to rec.autos.sport. * How do I follow up to a post? ----------------------------- Again, use your normal news software. The followups will automatically go to the appropriate rec.autos.sport subgroup, depending on the topic. * Can I crosspost to another rec.autos.sport group? ------------------------------------------------- Until rec.autos.sport.info achives full distribution, crossposting will be allowed, but only at the discretion fo the moderators. Post simply to rec.autos.sport.info, and the moderators will add other groups as appropriate. Once the initial distribution issues go away, crossposting will generally be discouraged. * Who are the moderators? ----------------------- rec.autos.sport.info is collectively moderated by MNI (Motorsport News International). The current list of MNI moderators is shown below: Andrew Henry andrewh@motorsport.com Dan Jones danj@motorsport.com Jonathan Kemp jonathak@motorsport.com Mike Holthouse mikeh@motorsport.com Ron O'Dell rono@motorsport.com Steven Wheeler stevenw@motorsport.com Jack Durbin jackd@motorsport.com Tom Haapanen tomh@motorsport.com All posts are automatically forwarded to all the moderators, and any moderator may approve any given posting. * What is appropriate for rec.autos.sport.info? --------------------------------------------- News, results, qualifying grids, points standings, schedules, press releases, FAQs, ticket information, TV schedules -- and attributed rumours (not "my brother said"). Moderators will use their judgement in marginal cases -- but you only need approval from one of the seven. Rejection requires four moderators; your article will be approved if it receives one moderator's approval before it receives four rejections. If your article is rejected, it will be emailed back to you, and you can repost it yourself to another group. [This may change in the future; the moderator daemon may automatically repost rejected articles in another rec.autos.sport group.] Articles containing opinions and unacceptable commentary may be rejected; if you prefer that they be edited rather than rejected, please indicate this in [square brackets] in the body of the article. * What about duplication? ----------------------- If the information in your article has already been posted when we receive it, yours may be rejected. If there is some additional information beyond that previously posted, it may either be posted as is, or edited (see below) to contain only the new information. * Will my article be edited? -------------------------- Possibly. We reserve the right to reformat text and to correct grammar or spelling errors where necessary. Signatures that are excessively large or potentially offensive may be removed. In some cases, we may edit out information that has been previously posted (such as race results), or add in an additional tidbit that may not have been available when you posted your article. * Is this newsgroup archived anywhere? ------------------------------------ Yes. The archive is available via anonymous ftp at ftp.motorsport.com (198.133.164.1) using the following pathname: ftp://ftp.motorsport.com/archive/rasi.YYMM The filenames are of the format rasi.YYMM where YY is the year and MM the month. * Are past issues available by World Wide Web? -------------------------------------------- Yes. To connect to the MNI WWW archive, use the following URL: http://www.motorsport.com/mni/index.html New articles are added to the archive automatically hourly. * Is there a FAQ for this group? ------------------------------ The latest version of the rec.autos.sport FAQ, compiled by Andrew Henry, is available by both anonymous ftp and World Wide Web. The latest pointers to the FAQ are: Hypertext (World Wide Web): http://www.bath.ac.uk/~bspahh/rasfaq.html http://www.erc.msstate.edu/~js1/rasfaq.html * How can I get rec.autos.sport.info on my site? ---------------------------------------------- rec.autos.sport.info is a real newsgroup and has been voted in using the Usenet guidelines. If you don't receive the newsgroup at your site, ask your newsadmin or sysadmin to add it. * Can I receive rec.autos.sport.info by email? -------------------------------------------- Yes, in digest format (mailed out each day just before midnight). This service is not as timely as standard news -- it is meant as a fallback for people with very slow newsfeeds, and for those who can't convince their site to carry the newsgroup. To be added to the mailing list, email your request to tomh@motorsport.com. * Why are there no spoiler warnings? ---------------------------------- There are no spoiler warnings because potentially everything in .info could be a spoiler to someone. The article subject lines, however, will never contain any results or spoilers themselves, so you can safely scan article titles. Reading an article on race results, though, will probably spoil the race for you -- use your judgement! * What are these keywords? ------------------------ All postings have a keyword preceding the subject line. The line may indicate a specific racing series, such as: F1, INDYCAR, NASCAR, WRC, BGN, GTCC, BTCC, F3000, INDYLITES In case of posts concerning multiple series, both keywords will appear, separated by a comma. The following lists the currently used keywords: ACRL American City Racing League APRC Asia Pacific Rally Championship ARC Australian Rally Championship ARCA ARCA stock car racing ATCC Australian Touring Car Championship ATCC2 Australian Touring Car Championship (2.0L) AUSCAR Australian stock car racing BF3 British Formula 3 BGN NASCAR Busch Grand National stock cars BGNN NASCAR Busch Grand National stock cars - North BNRB British National Rallies - 'B' status BNRS British Mintex National Rally Series BRC British Rally Championship BTCC British Touring Car Championship BTRDA BTRDA Rally Championship CARS CARS Pro Rally (Canadian Rally Championship) ERC European Rally Championship ERCC European Rallycross Championship F1 Formula One World Championship F1P6 F1 Pick6 competition F1PP F1 F1PP competition F3000 International Formula 3000 FATL Formula Atlantic FBRA Formula Brabham FF3 French Formula 3 FIA-GT FIA GT endurance racing FIREHAWK Firehawk endurance racing FRC Finnish Rally Championship FSAAB Formula SAAB GRASSROOTS Grassroots racing reports and experiences GTCC German Touring Car Championship GTCC2 German Touring Car Championship (2.0L) HISTORIC Historic races and rallyes ICP12 Indycar Pick12 competition IMSA IMSA GTO/GTU INDYCAR Indycar championship INDYLITES Indy Lights IRL Indycar Racing League IROC International Race of Champions JF3 Japanese Formula 3 JF3000 Japanese Formula 3000 JTCC Japanese Touring Car Championship KARTING Kart Racing LEMANS 24 heures du Mans LSR Land Speed Record MISC Miscellaneous information NARC North American Rally Cup NASCAR NASCAR Winston Cup stock cars NGD NASCAR Goody's Dash series NHRA NHRA drag racing OFFROAD Off-road racing PRORALLY SCCA Pro Rally PROVEE Formula ProVee RAID FIA rally raid championship RUSSELL USAC Russell series SATCC South African Touring Car Championship SCCA Sportscar Club of America SCORE SCORE off-road racing SOLO2 SCCA Solo 2 SPRINT Sprint car racing SRC Swedish Rally Championship STOCK Other forms of stock car racing SUPERCAR IMSA Supercar series SUPERTRUCK NASCAR SuperTruck TRANSAM SCCA Trans Am WOO World of Outlaws sprint car racing WRC World Rally Championship WRS Winston Racing Series WSC IMSA World Sportscars WTCC World Touring Car Championship Also, the following non-racing keywords may appear: INFO: Informational and administrative posts MISC: Miscellaneous information HISTORY: Historical/career postings -- [ /tom haapanen -- tomh@metrics.com -- software metrics inc -- waterloo, ont ] [ "there is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance." -- socrates ]
