I'm looking for information (and pointers to information) about the lastest "status" about MIDI files and other "digital storage" files. I'm looking for the latest "status" or "definition" of the various "grey areas" in the Music Industry. To explain this a *little* clearer, at one time they weren't sure what catagory a MIDI file was in. The question being hashed out was: Is it some sort of Composition? (ie (c) copyright) Is it some sort of Recording? (ie (c) and/or (p) copyright) Is it some sort of Performance? (ie (p) copyright) Is it some sort of Score (ie publishers copyright) Is it some sort of "etc, etc..." I remember reading a lot about the arguements and view-points. I don't remember *EVER* reading if this was resolved or how it was resolved. That is the kind of info I'm looking for. Also, what about things like the various kinds of "sound files" associated with Multi-media. Are these kind of arguements happening with those files? Who owns the copyright (and for what) in this case? Lastly, are there any other type(s) of files "in the Industry" that did have (or does have) these kind of questions. Perhaps, DAT or other "digital tape" or maybe Hard-disk Recording. Is it "Data" or is it "Music"? ...and in *what* situations? many thanks. Alan -- Alan W.
