Less than 2 days to go, we're almost packed and ready. Last question: Has Disney started carrying Coke Zero yet, or will I still need to bring my own? Thanks gang! Carrie N.O.Mommy

Coke Zero tastes significantly more like regular Coke. Just my particular preference, I'm sure, but I'll stand by the fact that they are very different. And I suppose I'll still have to pack a 12 pack. Thanks Julie and Derek! Carrie N.O.Mommy

Because Diet Coke uses a much higher ratio of syrup to water to increase its sweet flavor, this also made New Coke taste much sweeter than Coke Classic, and thus more like Pepsi. What is interesting is that around the same time (I'm not sure if it was right before or after), the Coca-Cola "Classic" formula was altered to be sweetened with corn syrup instead of sugar. Although the whole New Coke thing is shrouded in secrecy and surrounded by rumors, it seems that where there's smoke there's fire, and whatever they did, it was to boost profits. It seems unlikely that Coca-Cola could take away much market share from Pepsi because the purchase of the sodas had less to do with flavor and more to do with lifestyle. Coke's only option was to reduce costs. Personally, I find Diet Coke to be one of the most horrible flavors int he world, but ironically, the (discontinued?) Diet Coke with Lime was quite good. Coke Zero is "acceptable", but honestly, I just still can;t find a diet drink that has the same great tastes as a real sugar-laden soft drink. -- - RODNEY Next WDW Vacation? Who knows...

The only Coke Zero product I like it the Vanilla. It's a decent vanilla flavored diet cola and I can't abide lime diet coke, etc. Lisa Charlie Foxtrot wrote: > On Wed, 30 Jan 2008 17:01:09 -0600, Rudeney <rudeney@mickeypics.com> > wrote: > > > >>Personally, I find Diet Coke to be one of the most horrible flavors int >>he world, but ironically, the (discontinued?) Diet Coke with Lime is the only reason for Diet Coke to exist. :) Still no Coke Zero with Lime (apparently the lemon/lime craze faded before CZ arrived), but the Vanilla Cokes are still around in Zero form. I was always afraid to try Dr. Pepper as a kid-- Namely because I never realized that "Pepper" was just the *name* of the Coke inventor, and I'd thought it was supposed to be marketing a drink with some edgy fireball spice to it... Turned out to be just a variation on cherry-coke, and not quite so overbearing as the "real" version. :) Derek Janssen (and ftr, just what the heck *was* "OK Cola", apart from some hip-cutesy Gen-X variation on the brandname, like 7-Up's "dnL"?) ejanss1@verizon.net

I'm with Derek when it comes to coke w/ lime; however, I prefer a twist of the real thing to added flavor. I'll tell you what I would give one of my kids for (almost), a small glass bottle of old Coke.... fresh from an old country store. Or, gimmee an RC Cola and don't forget the moonpie. Oh my, the memories that are flooding back. To maintain newsgroup integrity.... It used to be that Disney served Coca Cola and Seaworld served Pepsi. Don't recall what Universal served. I'm wondering if they are all still product exclusive? -Fizzie

When I first tried the diet colas, I hated them. After acquiring a taste for them, I now think the regular colas are just nasty. I've had a similar experience with coffee. Years ago I was a 2 sugar and milk coffee drinker. I gradually weaned myself from the sugar so that now, a coffee with sweetener of any kind is gross. I still do use a bit of milk or creamer though.

I don't drink any sugar-sweetened beverages, but still I have never acquired a taste for diet sodas. Even the latest round of Splenda-sweetened beverages still does not taste good to me. The only diet drink that actually tastes decent to me is Fresca (and to keep this relevant, Fresca is available in many places at WDW). -- - RODNEY Next WDW Vacation? Who knows...

Now, thanks to the US Corn Cartel, it is sweetened with corn syrup. With today's formula, any taste difference among the various bottles and cans is 95% psychological and 5% container materials. -- - RODNEY Next WDW Vacation? Who knows...

I used to drink my coffee with sugar and cream, until many years ago when I took a management seminar on how to recruit, interview and hire employees. This was over 20 years ago, but it made an impression. One part of the class dealt with interpreting a recruit's behavior when offered a cup of coffee. There were all of these psychological interpretations of the different possibilities, but basically, accepting, sipping, and properly disposing of a cup of black coffee is the best thing. I quickly decided I would learn to drink black coffee and I never went back. -- - RODNEY Next WDW Vacation? Who knows...

Give > me Pepsi anyday. Actually, the formula change had nothing to do with New Coke. As I mentioned earlier, it has to do with the fact that they replaced the cane sugar in Coke with corn syrup. I couldn't remember when this happened, but I found it (as expected) on Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/newcoke.asp Again, the whole issue with New Coke was a formula consolidation. The formulas for Diet Coke and New Coke were identical save for the former using aspartame as a sweetener and the latter using corn syrup. The fact that the Diet Coke formula sweetened with corn syrup made it much sweeter than "classic" Coke and thus the winner of blind taste tests against Pepsi were all the better. Within the Snopes article, there is a very interesting (and relevant to RADP) quote from Coke's COO: "The simple fact is that all the time and money and skill poured into consumer research on the new Coca-Cola could not measure or reveal the deep and abiding emotional attachment to original Coca-Cola felt by so many people...The passion for original Coca-Cola and that is the word for it, passion was something that caught us by <NOBR>surprise..." This is what Disney has created - a passion for its parks. Unfortunately, they don't always seem to react as well as Coke did when guests find that passion "betrayed" by cutbacks and blatant attempts to squeeze more cash out of their pockets without increasing the value. -- - RODNEY Next WDW Vacation? Yes but this isn't the same Fresca from the late 60's and very early 70's. That was sweetened with saccharine like Tab. I liked the early blend of Fresca but can't stand the current version. EG, I haven't purchased a fountain DC @ WDW in a long time but they used to have DC Caffeine free in all the fountains (tan label instead of white or now silver). Didn't have the high-test version at any of the counter services restaurants, I asked. Hope this has changed for my next trip. The DCL Magic had high-test in all their free fountains on the ship which really made me happy. Where are you staying? I may have first hand info for you :) EG

Give me Pepsi anyday.

Always preferred Squirt for grapefruit soda (and Ruby Red flavor!), until that one disappeared off the shelves, just before Fresca developed their spinoff cherry and peach flavors... Usually when we do CS, we get a bottle of water and split it -- try to stay as hydrated as possible & caffeine & sodas don't do as good a job. EG

I know we are Pepsi drinkers so we either bring our own or stop for some at the store on the way to the resort. We don't really have a problem with drinking Coke because it seems most places go with Coke products but it is nice to have a Pepsi around since it is our 1st choice.

IMO we'd all be better off if corn were used to make fuel instead of corn syrup! It is everywhere. I spent time rinsing it out of some canned kidney beans I was using to make chili. Amen again! We know they are a business, but they want us to respond to their products in a way that makes it more for us than simply being buyers of a product. -- Sandi
