... today I eat a Burger King Big Fish sandwich - it looked like fish and
sorta smelled like fish but it didn't taste like fish. Does anyone know
what they(any fast food fish filet) are made out of??
Possibly recycled plastic?

Fast food restaurants are big into recycling. Almost all of their restrooms
feedback into
their kitchens in one way or another.

http://www.burgerking.com/Food/Nutrition/ingredients.aspx

: BK FISH FILETΒ™ PORTION
:
: Selected USDC inspected fish portions (Cod or Pollock) Water, Bleached
: Wheat Flour, Enriched Bleached Wheat Flour (Flour, Niacin, Iron,
: Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid). Contains 2% or less of
: each of the following: Yellow Corn Flour, Partially Hydrogenated
: Soybean Oil, Modified Corn Starch, Salt, Dextrose, Yeast, Sugar, Onion
: Powder, Garlic Powder, Spice, Oleoresin, Paprika and Annatto Extracts
: to Enhance Color.

Looks like it's two thirds flour and one third fish. More of a fish
biscuit or fish loaf. It does contain some parts of fish (don't ask
which parts) even if the selection process is "sweep the floor". :)

A "sandwich" can be a manufactured product, like nuggets, stix, &
patties. Most likely they use flour filler. Don't know if they're
required to be over 50% fish, maybe not. The taste, or lack of, can
also be affected by the oil. Maybe they're being frugal, and boiling
this rancid, (trans fatty-acid contaminated) oil over and over again,
or using a low-grade recycled motor oil...??

trivia: at least with chicken nuggets you get about 60% chicken (the
rest is usually soy filler)

Ingredients are listed in order of percentage contained, so fish is
the main ingredient; so flour cannot be two thirds as you suggest.

Probably Alaska Pollock.

I've never tried the BK fish, but I like the fish fillet
sandwich at MacDonalds.

They list two kinds of wheat flour. Using different forms of the same
thing is a way to mislead consumers by making it appear that something
else is the main ingredient.

The ingredient list is for the breaded and fried item. That is, fish +
batter. Also, while ingredients are listed in proportional order,
there is no way of telling exactly how much of an ingredient is
included.

My bet is on Scrod, Cod, or Haddock... All of which have a very high
"infestation" rate...

Don't ask...
