( WARNING---LONG POST! ) ;-)

Have posted before on this issue.
Have a YAMAHA CD BURNER 4416E

No longer reading the CD Rom/DVD Drive drive from the Burner.
Can make CDs, but can no longer copy them obviously.

I'm told that this CD Burner is known to create issues such as this.

But, I used WIN 2K before and this has ONLY started happening as soon as I
went to WIN XP.

I had other problems as soon as I switched to XP as well that have since
been dealt with, but some others thought my CD Burner was toast then,
however I was able to get it up and running again NO PROBLEM.

So...............my question?

I went to this page
http://solutionsnetwork.yamaha.com/knowledge/kpvmain.asp?Origin=YSNpage&Dest
0321966161032&Modsel
And in here they talk of FIRMWARE..........now, I am not sure IF this is in
fact drivers they mean and IF I really need to download whatever this is?
I had a prior problem in both 98 and XP but not in 2K where the CDS would
burn only half way and this was fixed by altering my DMA settings, at the
time.
Looking at these instructions below, for this said FIRMWARE, I see they want
me to play with them again.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this a bit of overkill just to
install some drivers for XP?

This is what I am enquiring about, for I don't want to go do all of this and
end up worse than I am not,as I am not really to sure WHAT IT IS they are
asking me to do here?

THANKS
