Help! rename-buffer switches initial-major-mode to fundamental

Hello,

I am trying to
	set the initial buffer to a specific name, and
	set the initial major mode to another mode.
However, if I am renaming the buffer, (setq initial-major-mode ....
has no effect; before renaming, after renaming and for both!
