Thank you for your prompt responses to my problem about coredumps in malloc(3)
after a thaw() on the System/6000.

Since I got a request to post the fix, here it is for the world to see:

Use the uiuc supplied malloc() (sendmail/uiuc/malloc.c).

My next question brought up by suggested fixes to this problem:
My sendmail reports its version to be: 5.65c/IDA-1.4.4
The source I got from uunet was titled: sendmail-5.65c+IDA-1.4.4.1.tar.Z
                                                                ^^
Which one is lying about the ".1"?

I never did add the '.1' to the definition of $V. For a while I was
updating $V with every change to the configuration package. But it seemed
to cause as many problems as it solved, so now I am just keeping track
with the RCS identification (the '$Id' string) near the beginning of
'Sendmail.mc'.
