"Invisible" new mail messages in Eudorea on a Windows 3.1 machine

Has anyone run across this situation? When you are in the In box, the
highlighted message appears only as a blank bounding-box, with the text
invisible? At first I thought this was a problem with the person having
customized their Windows Color Scheme Palette, but changing it back to
the default palette didn't cure it. Any comments or insights would be
greatly appreciated
