Hello! I am dying to try to find out how to make stars similar to the ones on this page. http://www.fullmoongraphics.com/bluemellow/bluemellow.html I asked how she did it and she said she used photoshop with the following plugins "SPG Web Tools" and "Kai's Power Tools." Is there anything similar with the gimp? I tried a couple of the plugins I thought might work but the line nova script-fu but it always makes my gimp crash, and I also tried using the supernova filter but I can't get that 'star' effect I'm searching for, it looks more like a moon. Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

Gimp version 1.1.x has a sparkle filter that may be able to get the effect your looking for. The gimp manual has a good tutorial on using the sparkle filter. I've used it myself to produce the constellation in the following composition; http://urablackstone.homepage.com/lake_okataina.jpg My sparkle is not exactly the same sparkle your looking for, but maybe with a few changes to the filter settings it could be. The purple colouring would be an extra step, use a radial gradient or something.
