I recently downloaded a lot of fonts from umichigan. I then uncompressed, unstuffed, and installed these fonts on a Quadra running System 7. The bitmaps were installed by dragging the suitcases into the system file, not by using Suitcase or something else related to System 6. Now that I have used the speed and power of the Quadra to print these all out, I would like to install them in suitcases on a Mac II running System 6.0.5. But the bitmaps are no longer recognizable as suitcases! What do I do? Is there a way to get the fonts back into suitcase form??? -Annie -- Annie Fetter, Resident Jock | '85 FJ1100, '89 Olmo, '88 Schwinn Traveller The Visual Geometry Project | DoD #0041, AMA #559977, AT&T 215/328 8225 annie@cs.swarthmore.edu | "Pantyhose are the feminine equivalent of afetter1@cc.swarthmore.edu | tucking your t-shirt into your underwear."

Can anyone recommend a good Greek font (for the Macintosh) which includes all the diacriticals (breathing marks, accents, etc.) -- note this rules out Symbol. I would prefer TrueType but Type 1 is acceptable. And as long as I'm wishing, I would prefer shareware or freeware to keep the cost down. Thanks, Rick

Well, you can always duplicate an existing suitcase, empty it, and then use the empty suitcase, saving a copy for future use. Clumsy, yes, but I have done it a few times. It's about time somebody made an FKey to make automatic suitcases in the Finder. But really, if you are having a problem recognizing bitmaps with Suitcase, then the obvious solution is to update your copy of Suitcase. The version I have (it ends in .12) recognizes just about anything, even non-font non-sound non-Fkey files. You can get the updater on sumex I think. ________ | ______ | || || Jason Y Kim || || | ------ | kim3@husc9.harvard.edu |. --- | |--------| IN MAC WE TRUST --------

As some may recall, I posted a request for information on Greek fonts available for the Macintosh. I have received a number of (e-mail) responses from others similarly interested so I will now present a summary of what I have learned. There do not appear to be any shareware Greek fonts at this time, at least none which are enjoying a healthy circulation. Purchasing a commercial package appears to be the way to go, unless someone is willing to convert a bit-map font (there are some in the archives, sorry I don't remember where). The commercial options I have learned about are: 1) Purchase an electronic Greek Bible. Zondervan Electronic Publishing offers one (macBible, Greek version, see p.87 of recent MacWherehouse catalog) and according to one person who responded to me, their font, Alexandria, is very nice. However, as he noted, whether or not one can actually use one of these fonts depends upon whether the font itself is in the public domain. Note that the "Alexandria" available in some archives is NOT the same thing, it looks like a PS conversion of the old Athens bit-map font. 2) Linguists Software produces two appropriate products: MacGreek (for ImageWriter) $79.95 * LaserGreek (Type 1 & 3) $99.95 You can contact them at: Linguist's Software P.O. Box 580 Edmonds, WA 98020-0580 Phone: (206) 775-1130 FAX: (206) 771-5911 3) Scholar's Press Software offers something called Greek Keys. I spoke with them over the phone and a representative said that the package includes both TT and PS formats. She also claimed the package includes a program which redefines the keyboard into something more "natural" for typing ancient Greek. She will be sending me some literature on the product which I will summarize to the net when I receive it. She quoted the price as $50.00 To contact them: Scholar's Press Software P.O. Box 15399 Atlanta, GA 30333-0399 Phone: (404) 636-4757 Thanks to all who responded. What I have posted is everything I now know, so if you have any more questions, please contact the manufacturers, not me. Rick * (yes, these are all U.S. prices)
