Below is a posting for a friend : ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our research team here is trying to buy a coding/decoding card for video images. That card should be able to receive PAL signals, compress it and display the result on the screen. Also, it should be able to grab compressed video data from the computer, decompress it and display it on the screen. Our requirement is that the card must be able to perform the above encoding and decoding functions at the same time for video conferencing purpose. The coding algorithm implemented is not a major concern. However, JPEG algorithm is perferred. QCIF sized image with a frame rate of no less than 15 frames per second should be sufficient for our application. For the time being, we know that the Action Media II card for IBM-compatible PCs and Parallax card for SUN SPARC stations can fulfil our requirement. We are just wondering whether we have any other options available. Thank you in advance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please reply to one of the following email addresses : cheung@fawlty1.eng.monash.edu.au shall@eikona.eng.monash.edu.au -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

They have a board, which can do realtime JPEG compression of 25 frames /sec and write it directly to harddisk. Then you can also play it back in realtime. Resolution was about 640x480 or less in nearly true color. I saw a demo on the last Cebit show. We are going to have a fast framegrabber for the PC, called PC Hurricane (TM), which can do 320x240 true color to Extended Memory in 25 frames/sec. So if you have 64 MB of RAM, you can store a few seconds of video and encode it to MPEG via our Xing MPEG encoder (per frame 1.5 seconds) The PC Hurricane is 999.-DM and the MPEG encoder is 499 DM. Have a look at the free MPEG demo for win3.x in ftp 130.231.240.17 under pub/MPEG MPEGXING.LZH is the file to download.
