"The Lakemba Survivor show." Other names were considered and rejected. One that almost made it past the post was: "Dodge that Bullet". Other notables included "Name this firearm sound", "Who Wants To Be Full Of Lead", "Hi-Velocity-Five", "Queer Eye for a Hit Guy", "Relocation, Relocation", "Do-Yourself-In Disasters", "Gunrise". Of course the popular pick that never made it as it had already been used was "Gunsmoke" closely followed by "Have Gun, Will Travel". Channel 7 are calling for contestants now. The rules are simple. Walk around in Lakemba. Last one standing wins. Producers are ecstatic about the new show format. They need only send a crew out for part of one day for an entire season "shoot".

Every time a bullet flies down there, where I live the property value goes UP so I am loving it! The one thing that disappoints me is for a long time, I have been saying "(name of ethnic grouping) have their good and bad, no more than any other ethic group from anywhere else in the world". Unfortunately, a Serbian friend of mine who has lived here about 20 years, when I commented that I despair that Lakemba will become an Australian war zone said that Australians born in Australia who had parents born here and going back a few generations, no matter where they came from, are generally happy to live and let people dress like they want, pray like they want, speak the language the people want and have the skin colour they were born with THESE days (meaning it wasn't always that way). He said that people newly arrived or second or third generation of those people who arrived are not the same. They bring with them ancient racial hatreds stretching back at least 100s of years and in some cases longer. He said Australians that have been here that long do not understand the danger this represents because we cannot think in their terms. He said we are this way because we are an island nation and really have faced nothing much, taking into account WW1 and WW2 etc as well. The people from other lands have a history of facing aggressors walking from their own country into their country and it has made them people who hold on to ancient hatreds. He says it takes more than 3 generations for the families to let go of it. He says this "Island Nation" attitude Australians have is repeated in England and America because England IS an island nation and for all intents and purposes, America may as well be said to be one as they face no threats from north or south of their mainland states whereby some army can walk over a border and start attacking and this is the sort of attitude Australia, England and America has grown up with for centuries. I have long argued with him that though what he says me be all well and good and true, I don't believe the people from those countries hold the hatreds down the generations when they move here. Sure, those born over there who come here may hold them but it was my contention that the first generation born here, exposed to the rest of Australian culture, give up their parents' ways when the reach their middle teens or possibly early 20s. I now fear I am being proven utterly wrong. I hope not but I think he may be 100% right.
