Star Trek: The Original Series....why?? Join me as I boldly go where no one
has gone before... to the depths af terrible Star Trek episode! In this
video, I'll be exploring the worst of the worst, the cringe-worthy, the
illogical, and the just plain bad. Was it a poorly written script, cringe-
worthy acting, I'll be diving into the episode that makes you wonder how they
ever made it to air. So, grab your phaser and get ready to blast off into the
world of bad Star Trek.

https://youtu.be/NXSQV1MY5xI?si=DKXkRTenoFW396sG

Just who does IBDM let vote? This is a middling one. For me, it's a tossup
between The Empath and the Halloween ep.

Because Brannon Braga is deeply stupid.

He once said in an interview that he didn’t understand what tricorders did,
but he was certain they used them way too often.

The empath is the clear hands-down worst episode winner. Accept no
substitutes.

Lots of TNG is worse than the worst of TOS. Most of it features gates
McMuffin in front of or behind the camera.

No. The Empath is at worst #4. Below it would be Spock’s Brain (#1, by a
wide margin) plus The Omega Glory in #2, just edging out Sub Rosa from TNG.
The Empath is bad, but it’s not as bad as The Omega Glory or Sub Rosa and
is miles ahead of Spock’s Brain.

"Spock's Brain" may be the worst episode of any Star Trek series. I
haven't seen every episode of every series, but I still suspect it is.

The writer intended it as a comedy and little Freddie Fryberger, the new
producer who was trying to destroy the show declared arbitrarily that Star
Trek didn’t do comedies (because he wouldn’t verse himself in the episode
they already done) and had them shoot a comedy script as a drama.

But at least it’s laughable. The Empath is simply stupid and cringe worthy.
And I can think of a dozen worse episodes of TNG. Maybe not any of DS nine.
Almost all of Voyager. Much of Enterprise. And all of new trek.

It might be worse, but it's so bad that it's entertaining (funny).

The Empath is stupid _and_ not entertaining.

I'm trying to imagine as a comedy. Hunh.

Really? What episodes of TNG would you say are worse than "Spock's
Brain"?

I guess there was that one where the bridge crew turned into children.
That was an eyeroller. I'd still call "Spock's Brain" worse, though.

The aforementioned sub rosa.

That one towards the end where data turns into a Mayan.

That one Gates McMuffin directed where everybody on the Enterprise devolves
into a different species.

LOL, I must have missed that one. Or repressed it.

What about the one where Wesley turns into a Native American god? I
think they'd stopped trying by that point.

Judging by the list of bad episodes we've generated, I think they should
stop turning the crew into things.

The best part is data’s cat Spot turns into an iguana. Because cats evolved
from iguanas. How could anyone be stupid enough to write that? Two words:
Brannon Braga.

He still is the native American God in Picard.

Although will Wheaton is so mentally ill at this point that he’s
complaining about them not letting him appear in Picard even though he did
appear as a native American God. He also complains about them not putting
him in one of the movies that he’s clearly in at the wedding reception.

You and I have tried to block him out but amazingly he’s actually blocked
himself out.

Lol

Certainly, they should stop trying to turn gates McMuffin into a Director.
Or, for that matter, an actress.

I hate magic DNA but I hate when they get the real stuff wrong. Geordi
didn't "devolved" into a primate, Troi "devolved" into an arachnid, etc

The idea of an interstellar hybrid is ridiculous on the face of it, so I
guess they just picked one parent. Betazoids allegedly evolved from
spiderlike creatures? That really don't seem likely.

Why do we keep watching this franchise when it has so many dumb
episodes? :0

You know, if I were going to revive a beloved franchise, I would choose
a showrunner who liked the original material. It's amazing how few
exectives seem to think of this.

TNG couldn’t keep qualified writers or story editors because of the working
environment much of which was Patrick Stewart’s bad behavior. About
halfway through the series run having burned through everybody talented
they had worked their way down to Braga.

That's even worse in Barclay's case, because he's a human!

Troi might be of space-French descent, however.

Stewart was constantly demanding eps with Picard as a romantic action
character.

I remember around the first season, he had a tantrum because his cast-mates
weren't "acting professional" enough and had toi tlak him out of his locked
trailer.

He was infamous for pulling childish crap, like if any visitor to the set,
sat in the captains chair, which they all obviously would want to do he
storm off the set in a hissy fit and not come back that day.

As far as the writers went a couple of them talked about what a nightmare
it was in an article in starlog and they said he would hand them script
changes he wanted. But that’s not the chain of command. Actors don’t tell
the writers to make changes. If they want them, they go to the producer or
the story, editor or a showrunner. Can you imagine what a nightmare it
would be if all the actors were constantly coming to the scriptwriter with
changes? And it was bad enough they’d quit.

And his insistance of getting some romantic and action eps, hence whats-her-
name on Risa and the Die Hard ripoff.

I did a search on on-set tantrums from him, and I found one story from
the first season which ends which everybody having a good laugh about it
all. I knew immediately that it was a planted story to confuse the
search results for things like "Patrick Stewart throws a fit." Since it
was clearly planted, I figured there must have been a series of other
tantrums to be concealed.

The captain's chair, really? Part of the set? Was he going nuts and
confusing himself with Picard? :D

You know, I never understood why some people insisted Picard was sexy.

Yes, and they're fairly loud about it, but I still wonder why they
picked him. He's not handsome. He just isn't. I don't want to get into
cataloging his faults, but come on.

I suspect some people call others "sexy" when it's really something else
they admire, thinking that sexiness is the highest possible compliment.
Just a pet theory I have.
