We never really got to know anything about Dex, which allowed them to easily erase him. There must be a good reason why Kai has no back story. Maybe they will propel Trina towards a more mature relationship and erase Kai. Or it will be discovered he has a long distance GF studying abroad. She will surface when she sees the documentary with Trina showing up as the Faithful GF, who stood by thru the tricky surgery. Trina will break up with him once she learns, but then finds out she is pregnant.

It would be refreshing if one apparently just really nice guy was exactly that: A really nice guy. I've wondered if there isn't some as yet unrevealed complication involving Kai's parents. It was not surprising that they were not seen while he was being the football star, because he was away at school. But when he was getting very risky experimental surgery, it was odd that at least one of his parents was not there for him. I can't recall if any explanation was given for their absence.

There were at least two good reasons to have red-shirted Dex: One, so Joss could become a secret agent, something that would have been hard to hide from a cop boyfriend. And two, to give Joss a reason to stalk and kill Cyrus, whom they need to get rid of because they wanted to bring in a new villain. > There must be a good reason why Kai has no back story. I could be wrong of course, but my guess is that Kai was brought in because there were no good boyfriend candidates for Trina among the existing cast of characters. When they bring in new characters who have no connection to established characters, the new ones usually have either no back story or a very vague back story. Portia is a recent case in point. They brought in Portia's father and brother for her wedding to Curtis, and there was some offhand comment made about her mother being too ill to attend. After the wedding, Portia's family disappeared and AFAIK haven't been mentioned since. > Or it will be discovered he has a long distance GF studying abroad. Maybe that's all Drew intended with it, but there must be more to it than that in terms of the overall story. They keep beating us over the head with the thing, yet Curtis's annoyance with it has barely registered. I'm not totally convinced that Kai is out of the woods yet with that so-miraculous-it-didn't-even-leave-a-scar back surgery. Since when does someone have major surgery on GH that doesn't end in disaster? Add Drew's involvement into the mix and it seems to me to be a recipe for just that. -- K

He mentioned once in passing that his parents couldn't be in PC for the surgery because they were vacationing overseas. Lame! -- K

True. If there ever was a reason mandating cutting a vacation short, that was a perfect example.

I am reminded of Rory. They started to develop him, including the detail that he loved graphic comic books. He and Spencer were probably going to be set up as rivals. But they ended up killing off both, because both actors were offered good opportunities on other shows. Cam was also briefly a possibility. He left to go to college and play music. I assume he may be back after he graduates. Now, if you haven’t seen Thursday’s show, here is some spoiler space Drew is hiring him as an intern. Either he will be Drew’s unraveling. Or, they will absent him in DC (where Drew never seems to go) until they figure out what to do with him. > > When they bring in new characters who have no connection to established > characters, the new ones usually have either no back story or a very > vague back story. Portia’s brother slept with Jordan. He was Drew’s incompetent lawyer in the insider trading case. Jordan dumped him, only because he was related to Portia. All the Jordan fans were really hoping she wouldn’t dump him. Here is another spoiler space Now, same thing seems to be happening with Isaiah. Jordan is dumping him, too. They did vaguely allude to Isaiah’s criminal family. If they don’t get rid of him, they might be steering him towards Lulu. > >> Or it will be discovered he has a long distance GF studying abroad.
