Up to 1 million people on the streets of Manchester last night. I wonder if City will get the same amount of support if and when they win on Sunday (and believe me I hope they do). Just remind me again which team has the biggest number of supporters in Manchester.

Busy was an understatement, it was fucking heaving. I went to 'Revolution' and had some Vodka cocktails, very lethal, then staggered to 'Generation X.' Top night. Apparently the council will be shutting 10 Yards of Wilmslow Road for City's 'Victory parade.' And the team will be in a 'Radio Cars' Mini-bus. Did you pop into 'Yate's Wine Lodge' on the way from Picadilly Station as well then?? Must have been a long journey from Euston, a very thirsty journey. The "oh I'll stick in a few bar names and other landmarks" ploy so they think I'm not from out of town. yatesie wrote: > Busy was an understatement, it was fucking heaving. of course they would . Just because there were alot of people in Manchester that night doesn't mean that they're all supporters , i know of at least 15 from work who went just to watch & they don't support Utd. red.five wrote in message <374e7877@news1.vip.uk.com>... >Up to 1 million people on the streets of Manchester last night. > >I wonder if City will get the same amount of support if and when they win on >Sunday (and believe me I hope they do). > >Just remind me again which team has the biggest number of supporters in >Manchester. > > >

Wednesday night in the City centre I counted I counted 14 coaches all full of Rags fans, all from Torquay, Great Yarmouth, Bristol, Kent need I go on. On Granada news they were interviewing United fans in the pubs after the game. 3 out the 5 people they interviewed had southern accents. I know Manchester is a big City but the suburbs don't strech as far as Bristol surely? I think it's about 50:50 in (Greater) Manchester. What makes the difference is that there are more United supporters outside Manchester too. But whatever, you can be sure that Wembley will be heaving with City fans on Sunday!!! Don't ever forget that City continue to get attendances that many Premiership clubs would be very happy with. Take my advice Jackie Chan. Do not try to get me to slip up on my Mancunian landarks...you WILL lose. For a start it's Yates's Wine Lodge. The DJ had his Queen's greatest hits playing, not my cup of tea. Besides before I got to Yates's I could have popped into the 'Goose on Piccadilly.' Not Whetherspoons as that was shut. Now you go off back to the old 'joanna and sing some crap songs no-one knows, I know where I live and I do not have to prove it to anyone. You cannot fault the support Man U get, however if the rolls were reversed and City did the treble, the streets of Manchester would be bursting with Man City supporters and true blues. I work in the City centre and in our office of 200 staff 2 man U fans managed to get tickets for the FA Cup final, and I would say that there are more true blues who go to Maine Road Regulary than Man U, does that tell you something....The glory reds are bound to hatch if the team is as successfull as Man U, and granted they are putting English football back on the map (Thanks), but Manchester is a Mainly blue city. One more question, in the main reception in the MEN Arena, the Major of Salford and Stretford was there, but where was the Major of Manchester !!!, he knows there is only one football team that comes from manchester. Jesus, for years you don't see a City fan on this group, then one win, on penalties over the mighty Gillingham and they're here shooting their mouths off about Manchester being blue. Do you know what would happen if United went down to the 2nd division? The gloryhunters would disappear and then the rest of us would get tickets and OT would still be a full house every week just like when we were relegated. Manchester is a red city, always has been always will be. You know it, I know it and every independent survey shows it. If you lot concentrated on the standard of football your own team plays instead of trotting out the same old cliches - as if they mattered - we might respect you a bit more. AWB

I don't know about you but I felt like I was in the minority at school in Manchester. There were a lot of City supporters and Liverpool were at the start of their heyday so the glory hunting bastards started supporting them. I for one wouldn't be surprised if there *are* more City supporters than United's in Manchester. I know they made my life hell in the 70's King Eric <eric8@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:d1F43.10197$%x.8362@wards... > Bollocks! there is no way that you can say there are more Blue fans than Man > U. AWB, if you're going to criticise City, at least come up with something that's genuinely wrong with the club, heaven knows there've been enough to choose from. The loyalty of City fans is not in question. We've lost count of the number of attendance records for division 2 broken by City this year. >Jesus, for years you don't see a City fan on this group, then one win, >on penalties over the mighty Gillingham and they're here shooting >their mouths off about Manchester being blue. The reason we're in "here", if you'd have bothered to look at the message headers, is because this thread is crossposted to both alt.sports.soccer.manchester.united and uk.sport.football.clubs.man-city. It was started by red five well before Sunday's play off final. I'm rather pleased to hear you haven't had a City fan in the United group for years. I wish I could say the reverse is true, but unfortunately we get several inflammatory posts a week from juvenile reds fans (and I don't mean red.five here) who think that the best way to celebrate United's success is to troll other supporters' newsgroups with a demonstration of their wit and sophistication - for some reason, usually expressed in capital letters with an excess of exclamation marks. I know the majority of you would never indulge in such activities, but if you can think of any way of keeping the little turds under control, we'd thank you almost as much as we do for Terry Cooke. I am a native Mancunian! I can grew up in Manchester during the 60's and 70's and can confirm (as most peple already know, that a large proportion of UTD fans live way outside the Manchester area. Match of the Day magazinew did a poll last season to see which was the best selling replica shirt (sold in City Centre stores) and 1. was Man City Home 2) Man City Away 3. Man Utd Home. Interestingly, the magazine illustrated that the best selling shirt in London was Utd Home. Work it out fore yourself! City outselling Utd. City Away outselling Utd Home. HAHAHA. Fuck off, you're taking the piss. Quite rightly, I'll admit Utd have a lot of shirts. Next poll should be, collectively, which clubs sells the most shirts.......full stop. Nuff said. This same reasoning showed why David Ginola won player of the year. Whether you like it or not, Spurs had ONE player worth voting for.......Ginola. Utd had:- Yorke - Top scorer with 12.6m tag on his head. Beckham - Came back superbly from World Cup embarrassment. Stam - Another big price tag, shaky start, shit World Cup, now Utd defence can't do without him. Keane - Last season injured, Utd won nowt. This season, back strong as ever, Utd do treble. Schmeichel - Another shaky start, announces retirement from English football, finishes proving why he's still regarded as one of the world finest keepers. The players and writers have a list to choose from. Add ALL the votes together for Utd's players and you would easily see that they took the majority of votes. But because the votes were split, Ginola won. There you go. It's simple isn't it. This is all getting a little tedious now children. Does it matter? The fact is United have a lot of support outside the Manchester area. United get crowds of 50 000. City in Division 2 get crowds of 30 000, but if you added a similar amount of Southerners then City's crowds would be up to 60 000 :-) <<<<The Image>>>> <the@virgin.net> wrote in message news:7k910j$405$1@nclient5-gui.server.virgin.net... > Anyone who says City have more home support than Man Utd doesn't live in or > visit Manchester. Rubbish!! Where would they put them all then, Eastlands? United get crowds of 50,000 'cos that's the capacity of their ground, we could easily get 70 or 80,000 if we had the space.... The fact is there are actually MORE United fans in Manchester than City fans, just visit the City Centre one day and I'm sure you will notice the proliferation of Red shirts etc... The 'we've more fans in Manchester' C**P that City put out is because of Jealousy of the other half of the city, and not based on any facts at all. I go back to my original post, we had support of approx 1 million people on 27 May, don't tell me they were all from London!! Not sure if this bit has been covered, but how many fans would support Man U. if there were in our position last year, i.e. the old division 3 ??? Not 50,000 or 40,000 or 30,000 I bet ??? If you go to London there are more United shirts than Arsenal shirts. I have seen somewhere that the results of a MANCHESTER sports shops sales were "Number 1 selling Football Shirt Man City Home" "Number 2 selling Football Shirt Man City Away" and before you reply it wasn't the City Shop > > The 'we've more fans in Manchester' C**P that City put out is because of > Jealousy of the other half of the city, and not based on any facts at all. I > go back to my original post, we had support of approx 1 million people on 27 > May, don't tell me they were all from London!! Where's this 1million come from? There have been various reports as I have said on this NG before. Some quoted 500 000 some quoted 250 000 some quoted 1million. The facts are they were not all United fans, some people went to see what it was like to sample the atmosphere. It has nothing to do with jealousy it is just football fans. When United fans jibed Liverpool fans in the 70's and 80's was that jealousy? I don't think so it was just football fans being football fans. Me thinks you have not thought it through and are just one of the "everybody hates us" brigade. In this country when people make it to the top everybody wants to see them down again. Surely the inclusion of the word "bastard" is the adverb here. It's very tone modifies the context and/or meaning of the verb "tell", in the same way an accepted "traditional" adverb would. The original poster thought that "to bastard fuck off" was the split infinitive. If "to fuck off" was the verb, then it it would have indeen been spit. In this case "to tell" was the verb, and it wasn't split. In fact the split infinative only applies to infinatives anyway, and is only a pedantic pile of shit from Victorian transaltors of latin. ..pedantic?: moi? >

There are many ways to split an infinitive. As well as using an adverb, an infinitive can also be split using, for example, parentheses. If I were to tell you to - and I am being pedantic here - remember the correct spelling of the word "infinitive", then not only would I be displaying such an example, but also pulling you up on your spelling.
