The same rumor was on Bay Area radio yesterday involving the Dolphins and
or the Cardinals(since Smith played at Arizona in college). What I heard
was either a #1 or a #2 and a player which both the Cards and Dolphins had
rejected. Michael Bankston's name was also mentioned but I can't see the
Cards trading him straight up for Smith, he's younger and better against
the run.

The Raiders are through with Smith, they've put him on the "Left List"
which apparently allows them to fine him up to one week's salary, per
week, while he's not getting paid, so he's actually not only losing 116K a
week in pay, but he is being fined that amount by the team and could wind
up owing them money if he were to sit out the season.

Allegedly the rumor that started this whole thing was that McGlockton was
being suggested by the Falcons for Jeff George, and somehow the rumor got
to Smith's agent that it was Smith not McGlockton on the block. The
Raiders emphatically deny they had been trying to trade Smith but at this
point they've washed their hands of him. No idea if there was anything to
the McGlockton rumors, NBC mentioned them last Sunday, I would think they
could get a lot more than George for Chester.
