I'd like to hear some views of people who wathched the Breeder's Cup handicap race at Belmont on Saturday. At the track many horseplayers booed when the stewards announced they were disqualifying Kiri's Clown. I've never heard them do that before. Personally, the decision did seem harsh. The second horse appeared to be leaning on Kiri's Clown through the stretch run, giving him no chance of moving out to allow Volochine through (and why should he allow him through anyway?). Volochine's jockey was really chancing his arm trying for a clear run through on the fence in such a competitive event. To claim foul simply because he couldn't barge his way through a non-existent hole is nonsense. Any views?

You never before heard them boo? Apparently you have not spent much time at NYRA tracks.

There was no real hole for him to go through.

A bunch of stewards should not be allowed to alter the finish of the race except for purse distributions. They can have their purse quarrels settled like they usually do after drug violations - without affecting the actual finish. So if a horse gets in front of another horse, disqualify the jockey and suspend him, take away the purse, whatever but don't change the finish for parimutuel payoffs. This is one of my pet peeves because I have seen an amazing number of DQs that were highly questionable (besides does it seem like it is always your horse that gets disqualified?) R.Padmanabhan

Didn't see the race. But there's a lot of off calls so get used to it and factor it in. Dick Mitchell says "stuff happens" 20% of the time.
