Hi there...

I was recently told that mandrake was just a scaled down version of Red
Hat... Does that mean that Red Hat makes Mandrake???? The same person
told me that all the basic utility (the ones that are tailored by Red
Hat) are the same for both distro.... Is any of this true??? Thanks...

Sincerely...

Mandrake is superior to RedHat in terms of stability and speed. Mandrake
includes all of the features plus additional software (Extra software
depends on which version you buy or download). If you want a good
distribution which is speedy and stable, your best choices are
Mandrake or Slackware. Slackware is a little harder is set up than
Mandrake, but it is rock solid once it set up. Both Slackware and
Mandrake are better suited for new hardware than Redhat (Redhat does
not support the Creative "Live" sound cards) and are cheaper to
buy than RedHat too.

I don't know about the 'scaled down' bit. I would think it would be more
accurate to call it 'scaled UP'. Mandrake is based on Red Hat, but has been
compiled for Pentium class systems, so you can expect better performance -
but a minimum system requirement of a Pentium.
The basic system utitilies should be the same. It's all good...
BTW - I've never used Mandrake.
