Will the HP 950C series or the 970 series DeskJet printers work?  I am
thinking about getting a good Linux compatable printer this time... The
printer I am looking at is a 950C Professional series printer. Thank you

Don't know about HP 950c but I use the HP 932c and it works fine.
I used apsfilter to set it up.
cd /usr/lib/apsfilter
#./SETUP
(I use slack7.0 so YMMV as you didn't state which distro you are using)
You will have to try different drivers listed in apsfilter to see which
gives the best results.  The driver that worked best for me was cdj550
(I tested all of them).
