Pepin the Short's older brother Carloman and Charlemagne's younger brother Carloman were set up by their fathers to be co-rulers with them, but quickly left the picture and the dominant brother did his thing alone. What might either Carloman have done differently had he been the one who survived? -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.

You know it was rather interesting seeing your post, and then comparing Wikipedia articles on the subject of Carloman and Charlemagne and other side articles on the subject. It is not obvious if Carloman would have been as agressive as our time line's Charlemagne in what was called 'East Francia'. One possible spin-off what if could be 'no Holy Roman Empire'. I start thinking about other usenet groups besides this one, some of them bad enough that I will not bother to mention them. Some of them are just vast chains of perpetual jeers against each other by people with vested interests in posting perpetual chains of jeers. I think it was somewhat insightful and enjoyable to see your post and then click on a few links and compare. If your posts are not many, it is still better than a vast string of them where they are bad, and if you start surfing other usenet groups you notice that it is more than possible. Thank you and keep them going if it you can do that.

In OTL the empire of Charlemagne divided and the HRE became identified with the eastern part...if the Pope still confers an imperial dignity on his patron but eastern territories are not as widely included would a "Germany" be assembled or stay a periphery of an imperial state based on France? And what of the Iberian marches? > I start thinking about other usenet groups besides > this one, some of them bad enough that I will not > bother to mention them. So the Empire is what is generally called now geographic 'France' rather than 'Germany'? 'France' is united in the 1800s, and Joan of Arc repels the English from more eastern areas? The Germans speak a derivative of Latin, but what do the 'French' speak? Charles Martel was earlier, but well, who knows about 'Spain'. Who can really know, who can understand? > >> I start thinking about other usenet groups besides >> this one, some of them bad enough that I will not >> bother to mention them.
