Sunday's poem on Penny's Poetry Blog:
When the Brow of June, by Emily Pfeiffer

When the brow of June is crowned by the rose
And the air is faint and fain with her breath,
Then the Earth hath rest from her long birth-throes. [...]

New poet to me, as well.

Definitely obscure.

I can't say I knew much about her. She's in the /Dictionary of National
Biography/ - that's the bio I used - but there's not much in it. I
hadn't read any of her books; this is a second poem I've blogged of
hers, with a "winter" one to follow next year, all of which came from
anthologies.

Yeah, I don't know much about her work. I had two of her books linked
onto her PPP article, but hadn't read them; I found the 3 of her poems
I've picked for the blog in anthologies.

Getting this poem ready for publication, I did find a book of hers,
/Sonnets and Songs/, at Project Gutenberg; and I discovered that all the
poems I've selected came from that one book. That impressed me enough to
add it to my Timeline of British Poetry.

The Timelines are a neat feature I'm working on -- sort of a short list
of the 1,000 or so best books of poetry in each country -- which I add
to whenever. They're short of women writers, so I decided to put
Pfeiffer on. Then I remembered Rebecca Hey, and put her on, too.

I don't know how much I can accomplish, but every bit helps make the
author's work easier, which is an important first step in it becoming
better known.

Yes, the search engines are constantly expanding with information, as I've found recently with the Everly Brothers information which wasn't available even two years ago online.

Kudos again to George Dance for helping bring a new spotlight on these relatively obscure and nearly forgotten poets.

Good job on keeping these poets and their poems available for view.

It may not even be within our lifetimes that the full results of your work on exposing these important yet nearly forgotten poets to generations unborn will be known.

Bravo, George Dance.

Likewise, and, again, kudos to George Dance for keeping these poets out of obscurity.

And so it goes.
